The Network visualization presents the interconnectedness of global music charts through an interactive network diagram. In this visualization, colored ring nodes represent national music charts, colored dots within represent artists, and the smallest dots represent songs, with lines illustrating their interconnections. Data Source: Sourced from Spotify's Official playlist database, encompassing chart data from 21 countries as of 10/30/2024.
Top Navigation Area
Country Selection:
- Click on continental menus (Asia, Americas, Europe, Africa, Oceania) to expand country lists for each region.Countries are color-coded by continent
- Select multiple countries to compare their music charts
- Double-click any continent button to quickly select/deselect all countries in that region
- Selected countries appear as flag icons at the left bottom of the screen
Quick Controls:
- Click the Spotify Logo to reset all selections and return to the Taiwan chart view
- Use the "Include Explicit" toggle to show or hide explicit content
- Select from the duration dropdown menu to filter songs by length
All filters work in combination, allowing you to create highly customized views of the global music landscape.
Node Graph Panel
Square nodes in the graph represent internationally popular artists, with numbers inside indicating their chart presence across different countries. Use the zoom controls in the bottom right corner to adjust the graph size for optimal viewing.
Information Sidebar
This section provides a three-tier information display, featuring a top semicircular popularity meter (0-100), a central artist photo area, and a bottom section for detailed information and song preview functionality.
Interactive Features
Hover over any node to display its name. In the node graph, country nodes maintain a fixed size, while square artist nodes scale according to their international influence. All nodes can be freely dragged to adjust positions, facilitating exploration of musical connections.
Detailed View
- Click on a country node: The node graph panel displays that country's chart visualization, while the information sidebar shows details of its #1 ranked song
- Click on an artist node: The node graph panel visualizes the artist's international influence, and the information sidebar lists all their charting songs
- Click on a song node: The information sidebar displays comprehensive information about that song
- Click on any empty space in the node graph panel to clear the current highlight state
